Give Us Toilets

Case 1: You get up early in the morning in some town of India and go for a morning walk to the outskirts of the town.
Case 2: While travelling by train, you peep out of the window early in the morning.

What do you  find in both cases?

You find people- men and women- defecating in the open, in the lap of mother earth, showing their bottoms to the whole world.

Our PM Mr Narendra Modi says 60 percent of Indian population (approx. 72 crore people) defecate in the open. This is the case when we dream to become a superpower.

Are we Indians so poor that we can't afford decent toilets?

Not always. Out of these 72 crore people, many are fairly well-to-do. Even then , they will not have toilets at their homes because toilet figures at the bottom of their priorities. This blog post is targeted at these people . These are the people who will shed rivers of blood if someone looks at their women with bad intention. However, their blood remains perfectly at 37 degree centigrade even when their women have to show their bottoms to the whole world every day (because there is no toilet at home).

Then , what is the way out?

Certain things can be changed with proverbial DANDA only. Government must make a law making toilet compulsory for everyone to get electricity connection and water supply. Government has all the power to make such law.

For people below poverty line , government must provide 100 percent subsidy for toilet construction. Certain schemes are in force in this regard; however, there is a requirement of implementing these schemes in true spirit.

Open-defecation free India must be every Indian's dream , before we even think of becoming a superpower.
